Completed in 2022, the Clydebank Health Centre, located near the iconic Titan Clydebank Crane, has emerged as a transformative force within the Queen’s Quay regeneration area. This modern health facility not only aims to enhance the health and wellbeing of the Clydebank community but also serves as a central hub for various healthcare services, providing a one-stop solution for patients.

The Clydebank Health Centre plays a crucial role in improving accessibility to healthcare services for approximately 47,000 residents. It houses an extensive array of services, including GP practices, podiatry, physiotherapy, consulting and treatment rooms, and community health teams. The facility supports 340 staff members and an additional 300 home carers, creating a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem under one roof.

Hygenius designed and delivered functional spaces within the health centre which included consulting rooms, treatment rooms, dirty utilities, clean utilities, storage rooms, offices, and staff areas. A key feature of the design was the use of Corian® Solid Surface for clinical worktops. This material was chosen for its durability, ease of care, and superior hygienic properties, which significantly reduce infection control risks due to its seamless and non-porous characteristics.

Corian® meets the stringent standards required in healthcare settings. Its non-porous nature prevents bacteria and fungi penetration, eliminating the need for grout and moisture penetration that can lead to mould. It is easy to clean and maintain, ensuring a hygienic environment without exposing staff, patients, or visitors to harsh chemicals. The seamless joins between horizontal and vertical surfaces create a smooth, one-piece aesthetic that enhances both functionality and design.

One of the standout features of the Clydebank Health Centre is its main reception desk, made from Corian® Juniper. Designed by Bespoke Atelier and Anderson Bell + Christie, this desk is adorned with illustrations inspired by the nearby Kilpatrick Hills, created through a year-long series of engagement sessions with the local community and NHS staff. These illustrations are etched into the Corian® surface and filled with contrasting acrylic resin, forming a captivating focal point in the main hall. This artistic piece not only integrates the natural beauty of Clydebank into the health centre, but also creates a welcoming and serene environment for patients and staff alike.

The Clydebank Health Centre exemplifies how thoughtful design and community engagement can come together to create a healthcare facility that not only meets functional needs but also enhances the overall patient experience. The collaboration between the designers and healthcare professionals and the use of Corian® Solid Surface have resulted in a modern, hygienic, and aesthetically pleasing design that meets the functional needs of the health centre.
